In April of 2012, North Korea’s Ryugyong Hotel is scheduled to open its doors, and it only took 24 years after its groundbreaking. Ryugyong, also known as the “Hotel of Doom” was supposed to be the largest tower in the world when the idea was conceived. But the Telegraph reports that it was delayed by the “collapse of the Soviet Union, economic mismanagement and natural disasters,” among other reasons.
Not only is the nickname “Hotel of Doom” dated, it isn’t very welcoming either. “Better late than never” is a more appropriate fit. That is, assuming Ryugyong actually opens next April. It’d be one hell of an April Fool’s Day joke.
