Think back to all those sci-fi flicks where people interact with hologram-like, 3D models, picking and pulling at them with their fingers like they’re the real thing. Well, Microsoft seems to have perfected a one-off of the system, using its Kinect.

Dubbed the “Holodesk,” the device creates the 3D models atop a surface with an overhead screen projecting a 2D image. However, facial recognition tracks a user’s eye movements and the Kinect monitors one’s hands movements to add perspective and dimensions, so projected objects can therefore react to interactions with any physical objects.
