For anyone familiar with the idiosyncracies of director Werner Herzog, you'd be curious to see how that translates into film. The legendary helmer will play the villain in Tom Cruise's in-the-works Paramount thriller entitled One Shot. Based on Lee Child's best-selling Jack Reacher novels, Herzog will bring his eccentric behavior to the role of a character named "The Zec," an ex-prisoner of war who conspires to frame a trained military sniper for a seemingly random shooting spree.

That is, until Cruise's cunning ex-army cop (and badass force of nature) Jack Reacher gets involved to reveal the truth behind this terrible turn of events. If fans are willing to buy the pint-size action star as Reacher, then this could be a new chapter in his storied career as the star in action franchises. It could be like what Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan character did for the aging Harrison Ford.

One Shot, which hits theaters on February 8, 2013, also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, and Robert Duvall, and will be directed by The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie. While Herzog may be a relative newbie when it comes to acting in front of the camera, does his proclivity for being a "mad genius" help him to prepare for playing a creepy villain opposite Tom Cruise? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
