Just when you thought it was safe to walk into a movie theater in the summer without getting bombarded by robotic mayhem, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner said in a conference call that he hopes to make an announcement on Transformers 4 next quarter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Goldner will apparently speak to both Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay soon in hopes of reteaming with them on the picture, even though Bay has repeatedly said that Dark of the Moon would be his last.
Hasbro’s stranglehold on American cinema doesn’t just stop with mountainous robots anymore. Goldner also announced that there are currently scripts in development for their other properties, such as Micronauts, Ouija, Stretch Armstrong, Risk, Monopoly, and Candyland. Apparently Paramount and JJ Abrams are already interested in Micronauts, which would be a good sign for Hasbro.
While we can’t quite figure out how a Candyland or Monopoly movie would ever be remotely watchable, there were plenty of people that doubted the profit potential of Transformers when it was first announced. But then the franchise went on to make over $1 billion worldwide, and proved that even the most ludicrous movie idea could make serious bank with the right people in charge.
