Caracas, Venezuela has is trying an alternative approach to traffic control. According to Fox News, they city has employed 120 mimes to fight traffic. No, we’re serious.

The mimes dress up like clowns, and “wag their fingers at traffic violators and at pedestrians who streaked across busy avenues rather than waiting at crosswalks.” Shame on them. In addition, the mimes frown at drivers who disappoint them and make the “stop” signal with their hands.

We suppose the city of Caracas is counting on drivers responding better to mimes because they’re amusing and, at times, annoying. We’ll see how effective this silent form of traffic control is.
