Scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely Confirm "Captain America 2" Will Be Set In Present Day

Does this mean we may find out what happened to Bucky?

None

Chris Evans will don a new-and-improved costume as Steve Rogers/Captain America in next year's The Avengers. However, it currently looks as though we'll have to wait at least two and a half years before Cap gets his next solo adventure — which, for now, is just being referred to as Captain America 2. The screenwriters behind the project, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, recently shared some details on the sequel, while promoting this week's DVD/Blu-ray release of Cap's first solo movie. They prove what we were thinking all along about Cap's next journey:

"I think it's safe for us to say that it's primarily set in the modern day. That seems to have been the biggest question people have been wondering about regarding the sequel. Most people know the story of Captain America as the story of this man out of time, and because The Avengers is such a big movie, and because [The Avengers director] Joss Whedon has so many moving pieces, we've been left with room to explore Cap entering the modern day wondering, 'What is all this? What's happened to the world?' and so on."

You can say that there's a bit of structural sleight of hand going on. With the world as Cap's big question, the answer isn't really cut and dried, but McFeely and his partner Christopher Markus will add some moral ambiguity to the First Avengers real-world awakening. Juxtaposing the naive war hero against an uncertain world sounds like subject material that will contain a rich seam of movie making potential.

Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 25. What do you think, guys? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
