It looks like Aaron Eckhart is on-board to help Lionsgate create a monster. The Dark Knight star has been cast as Adam Frankenstein in I, Frankenstein, writer-director Stuart Beattie's adaptation of Kevin Grevioux's graphic novel. Grevioux, who is also the brainchild behind the Underworld film franchise, tells the tale of Dr. Frankenstein's creature and how he has survived to present day thanks to a genetic quirk in his creation. Eckhart, as the pieced-together monster, arrives at a gothic metropolis, and finds himself caught in an epic war between two immortal clans.

With vampires and werewolves seeming on their way out of trending topic status, are we entering the Age of Frankenstein? Real Steel director Shawn Levy has a Frankenstein picture in the works, which will be written by John Landis' son, Max. So, this might be the bolts-in-the-neck beast's time to shine. Director Stuart Beattie is set to begin shooting I, Frankenstein in January 2012 for a February 22, 2013 release.

We will keep you posted as more casting news develops.
