While details are scant, the Wall Street Journal reports that Google, parent company of YouTube, is preparing a lineup of traditional live TV programming via official YouTube channels within the next 60 days.

With the marketplace for streaming content growing rapidly and getting crowded, Google seems to be positioning themselves to attract consumers who want new content as it happens--in the past, the site has streamed everything from UFC pay-per-views to live concerts. As for potential competitors, Microsoft made its own position clear last week with news of a possible partnership with Comcast for Xbox Live. The race heats up.
