Snoop Dogg isn't really aiming to diversify his IMDB account after signing on to take a lead role in the upcoming biopic The Legend of Fillmore Silm. Announced yesterday by Ames Universal and SRI Entertainment, the California-born rapper is set to play the blues guitarist-turned-pimp in the movie which has Hawthorne James (Stargate SG-1) serving behind the lens.

Slim started pursuing a music career in the 1950s, but was lured away by the pimp game. He grew to prominence in San Francisco, and was known by such colorful nicknames as "The West Coast Godfather of the Game" and "The Pope of Pimping." The life got to him and eventually Slim returned to music in the 1980s, and is currently touring at the pimpish age of 77.

There are some clearly defined parallels between the public images of Slim and Snoop, aka "Tha Doggfather." While the jury is out on whether this will be a breakout role for the Long Beach General, we shall see as The Legend of Fillmore Slim begins filming in March 2012.
