Facebook and Apple have reportedly long had a tense relationship, with leaders at both companies often butting heads. When Apple announced Twitter integration into iOS 5, Facebook was conspicuously absent from the new OS, with reports saying Cupertino had deemed Facebook-founder Mark Zuckerberg "a fucking asshole." Facebook's lack of an iPad app, a glaring omission for a company that made the most popular iPhone app of all time, has often been attributed to this riff. But according to a new report, the two influential companies may have finally resolved their differences and could announce the long awaited Facebook for iPad as soon as next week: At the iPhone 5 unveiling.

Mashable cites sources familiar with the situation who say Facebook will be a special guest at the iPhone unveiling, said to be taking place Tuesday, October 4. A revamped version of Facebook's iPhone app, featuring a new design and improved speed, is also on deck for the announcement.

Previously, images of Facebook's long-gestating iPad version were leaked to TechCrunch. A former developer for the company revealed today that he jumped ship for Google partially because Facebook has been sitting on the app since May.
