Twitter, if used cleverly, can become a rallying tool for revolution—or so idealists think. There might have been hints of that earlier this year as uprisings in the Middle East were documented via social media, but ultimately, Twitter’s main achievement has been to further trivial chatter about trending topics the likes of Justin Bieber.

Aiming to change that, Anonymous hackers have created a tool, URGE, that lets you spam a trending topic with up to seven (Twitter’s limit) unrelated messages in order to sway conversation. So all of the talk about #DarrenMcFadden’s big game last night can easily switch over to talk about Obama’s jobs bill (#JobsNow). However unlikely that is.
