Rumors about a Sex and the City prequel have been circulating seemingly non-stop all year. It will star Blake Lively and Selena Gomez! It won't! It will! It will actually be a television show! But not on HBO! Well, as it turns out, that last rumor might actually be true. Deadline reports that The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to Sex and the City written by Candace Bushnell, may become a television series on The CW.

The teen-focused network is working on deal with HBO, with the hopes that Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage would take charge. No casting is done yet, but obviously if the show airs on The CW, you can probably rule out any "stars"; this is a network that makes stars, and doesn't necessarily hire them. (New fall shows featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rachel Bilson notwithstanding.)

Anyway, expect to see some official movement on The Carrie Diaries in the coming weeks.
