The first of their kind, Sony’s new DEV-3 and DEV-5 binoculars are practically cameras with 1080p HD video, also boasting 3D capture. Why binoculars, instead of say, an actual camera, need video recording capabilities, who knows? But Sony seems to think it’s a noble idea, even when pricing its low-end model, the DEV-3, at $1,399. The high end? A whopping $1,999, but that comes with a built-in GPS.

Sony’s approach here seems to be to just cram as many features as possible into an otherwise outdated device. Or perhaps cater to the voyeur market.
