'Places' And Check-Ins On Facebook Are No More

The Foursquare-esque feature gets the axe.

None

As a part of the big privacy overhaul Facebook is getting ready to roll out, the social network's 'Places' feature is biting the dust. Places, which let you check-in to real-world locales via the Facebook mobile app and tag your friends, was an overt challenge to Foursquare. But like the company's Groupon knockoff, 'Deals,' Places never quite replicated the success of the original.

Under the new Facebook settings, you'll be able to share your location by adding it to status updates. And while Places won't be apart of the next version of Facebook Mobile, location-sharing is still expected to play a role in the app.
