For those of you who joined Maroon 5's Adam Levine and boycotted watching MTV's VMAs, here is one of the many things very few things you missed out on: the first trailer for The Hunger Games, which was presented by the movie's leading lady, Jennifer Lawrence.

If it's your first time hearing about the bestselling cult book turned movie, here's what it's about, conveniently summed up in one sentence: a dystopian world where the government chooses kids in a lottery-esque fashion to fight one another to the death on live television (which sounds curiously like a Real Housewives reunion special/The Gladiator mash up, doesn't it?)

And if you're already one of the cult, maybe you can explain the vague, barely 40-second trailer to the rest of us.

The Hunger Games, which also stars Donald Sutherland and Woody Harrelson, will be out in theaters March 23, 2012.
