Director Kevin Smith has become fond of toying with the notion of what it means to be a director over the last year--the way he handled the release of his upcoming horror film Red State harkens back to barnstorming tours of Hollywood's golden age--so this news seems totally unsurprising, while being kinda shocking: Vulture reports Smith could have his own daily talk show on Fox affiliates in the near future.

Per Vulture, which got its hands on an email from show producers to potential guests, the program will be "a daily 30-minute entertainment talk show for syndication ... The idea is a Regis and Kelly talk show at the opposite end of the day for the opposite kind of audience — the 12-34 demo. Kevin and his co-host will talk water-cooler topics at the top of the show, followed by a celebrity interview and a comedy segment from the field (a la The Daily Show). Each show will feature one celebrity interview."

No word yet on Smith's cohost, or whether this will even come together. There's also the matter of Smith's foul mouth, which he uses to such great effect on his podcasts and Twitter feed. Can Smith be reigned in by the constraints of daytime (or afternoon) television? Stay tuned.
