Director Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden Thriller Due October 2012

The new film from the Oscar-winning team behind The Hurt Locker may not yet have a title, but it now has a release date.

Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and her partner Mark Boal are looking to add another Oscar to the mantlepiece. Their follow-up to The Hurt Locker is a currently untitled Seal Team 6 flick that now has a firm release date: October 12, 2012—right in the heart of awards season.

Sony has positioned the movie squarely as a contender and is using a strategy similar to the one employed on The Social Network, which also launched early in October. The small-budget Black Ops thriller has become the object of great desire in Hollywood since the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Casting details are still being kept under wraps, but now that a date has been established, it's only a matter of time before all that changes.
