Google+ Hates Privacy As Much As Facebook

Google’s new social network to discontinue private profiles.

Despite the early plaudits Google+ has earned for its intuitive design relative to Facebook, the new social network doesn’t differ much at least in terms of privacy policy. Come August 1st, your new Google+ profile will cease to exist if it isn’t listed as “public.”

Echoing Zuckerberg’s sweeping, pro-transparency stance, Google reasoned, “We believe that using Google Profiles to help people find and connect with you online is how the product is best used. Private profiles don’t allow this, so we have decided to require all profiles to be public.”

By deadline, Google will only mandate that your full name and gender be kept public—everything else including “Circles” can remain private. Though, with a hard-line stance so early on, who know what the future holds for Google+.
