According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox has purchased the film rights to the upcoming graphic novel from Archaia Entertainment, Rust: Visitor in the Field. Written by Royden Lepp, Rust takes place on a rural farm where a young boy wearing a jet pack crash lands while being pursued by a giant dilapidated war robot. The farmer and his family must then learn to trust this mysterious stranger in order to survive.
Not much is known about the property because the comic itself hasn’t even been released yet. While most comic based movies are adapted from a previously released work, Rust is unique because Fox has purchased the rights solely off of the premise, as opposed to waiting for sales figures and critical reactions.
The studio has hired Aline Brosh McKenna to write the script to the movie, while Archaia’s Stehpen Christy and Fox’s own Simon Kinberg are set to produce.
