Few people are willing to work for absolutely free, so for the thousands of volunteers that help the world's premier social encyclopedia, some other sort of return is necessary, whether it be smokes, MetroCards, or condoms. Wikipedia hopes that its volunteer contributors and editors are willing to continue working in exchange for complements.

Come Wednesday (June 29), Wiki will unveil the “WikiLove” heart-shaped button on all user profiles. If you like something you read, click the button and a “Love Interface” pops up allowing you to show appreciation through text and customizable images—the default options for now include kitten and beer icons.  Random yet well intentioned.
