Earlier today, Dreamworks released the first trailer for director Steven Spielberg's War Horse, based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo that's already a staple within the theater world. Set in both rural England and Europe during the World War I, Spielberg's drama is about the friendship between a horse named Joey and its trainer, a young lad named Albert (Jeremy Irvine). The two are separated and the plot spirals into a journey of a horse eager to find his trainer and companion. By the looks of this trailer, Spielberg is about to make grown mer weep and critics swoon.

Thankfully, there are no signs of any talking horses, as the film attempts to tug on your heart strings by following the equestrian icon through the war as Joey (yes, the horse) changes and inspires the lives of those he meets along the way. Clearly, Joey is vying to make an updated version of our Most Badass Animals list.

Co-starring Emily Watson, Tobey Kebbell (RocknRolla), David Thewlis (Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter movies), and Tom Hiddleston (who played Loki in Thor), War Horse is set to begin increasing Kleenex's stock and lobbying for Oscar nominations on December 28.
