Spain’s National Police announced arrests today of three “Anonymous” hackers responsible for Sony’s Playstation Network cyberattack in April.
The trio was prolific, also attacking Spanish banks BBVA and Bankia, Italian energy company Enel, and government sites from Colombia to Iran to New Zealand. The damage alone to Sony is estimated to cost the company about $170 million.
One of the hackers, 31-years-old, was detained in Almería after also coordinating an attack against the website of the Spanish National Electoral Commission on May 18, right before their regional and municipal elections. The two other suspects hailed from Barcelona and Valencia. Each now face up to three years behind bars, but as is common with most arrested hackers, they'll probably turn government informants instead of doing jail time.
