After code savvy users found countless unplanned uses for Xbox's Kinect peripheral, Microsoft has finally made honest hackers out of them. The company has released an official Software Developer's Kit, which will allow any programmer to create applications for the motion capture device just like they would a device running iOS or Android.

There is currently no infrastructure for developers to market and sell any of the new applications they come up with, but Microsoft says it's working on that. For now, we can at least look forward to more and better ways to exploit all the cool capabilities of Kinect that don't involve dancing in your socks to Lady Gaga songs.
