Joel Silver, the producing muscle behind some of Hollywood's most acclaimed action flicks, has been tapped to produce a tentpole version of Cartoon Network's super-successful series Ben 10.

Variety reports that all parties involved see the major bucks possibilities in bringing the animated series to the big-screen as a franchise starter, one that will be aimed directly at the kiddie demographic. There have been three separate incarnations of Ben 10 and a couple of spin-off live action TV movies, both directed by Bill And Ted star Alex Winter (no kidding). Silver spoke on the challenge of developing such a franchise for a young audience, saying, "I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material. I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it's somewhere between them."

Ben 10, for those who only watch Cartoon Network for the Family Guy reruns, finds the young Ben Tennyson in possession of a watch-like piece of alien technology that allows him to transform into various super-powered aliens. With the help of his granddad and his sister, Ben masters the challenges that come with being the keeper of the Omnitrix, and fight evil.
