After we reported that Jamie Foxx was beginning to inch past rumored contenders Idris Elba and Will Smith for the titular role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, it seems that we now have some confirmation. Variety reports that the Foxx will join (supposed) stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christoph Waltz in the Spaghetti-Western pic.
When word first broke about this controversial new flick, Smith was called the early favorite for the gig, but since then he has evidently passed. Now, Foxx, who can next be seen in the comedy Horrible Bosses, will play the freed slave who joins forces with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) as part of a plan to save the former's love from an evil plantation owner (DiCaprio, if he's ever officially confirmed). The trade also says that Kerry Washington is one of several actresses up for the chance to play the role of Django's wife, Broomhilda.
Django Unchained is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2012.
