The rumor mills keep on churning for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, a slavery-themed flick that seemingly has every Black actor in Hollywood clamoring to win its lead role. And now there's a new rumored top choice: Jamie Foxx, replacing the previously talked-about frontrunners Will Smith and Idris Elba.

Word broke on Showbiz411 after writer Roger Friedman spoke with Samuel L. Jackson at Sunday's 65th Annual Tony Awards ceremony. While it's unclear where the site is truly sourcing its information from, it's plausible enough to happen due to Tarantino's unpredictable casting nature. Remember when he took a chance on a declining Hollywood star named John Travolta? Foxx's name is still a a box office draw, and he loves courting controversy, which something that Will Smith might have feared.

But is Foxx a good fit for the role?

Tarantino's Spaghetti Western homage to Sergio Leonealready has Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and the aforementioned Samuel L. Jackson cast linked to principle roles. DiCaprio, though not confirmed, is said to be close to signing on to play Calvin Candie, the villainous plantation owner who has Django's wife enslaved within his Mississippi headquarters, known as "Candyland." Jackson, meanwhile, would play his house-slave/man-servant. As for Waltz, who won an Oscar for his role in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, is pegged to the role of a German bounty hunter who trains Django and helps him search for his wife.

While Foxx has had some action experience, starring in yawners like Law Abiding Citizen, Stealth, and Miami Vice haven't exactly made us jump for joy, Tarantino's input could lead to the man formerly known as Wanda's best performance to date. That is, if he ends up winning the part. We shall see.
