Life may get a bit more difficult for companies that make navigation software for Android phones. According to Dutch tech site All About Phones, Google plans to implement an offline mode in its Maps Android App later this summer. This would allow users to map out their destinations and get directions without being connected to the Internet.
A December 2010 Google Maps update brought the caching of maps, which enabled users to get directions and maps of places they frequently visited. It also allowed them to bring up directions that were previously routed in Navigation.
Watch your back, Tom Tom.
