It was inevitable for Google. With a singular entity so commonplace in the daily lives of any and all Internet users, the feds would naturally have to take closer look at the company to determine whether or not their operations constitutes a trust.

The FTC will soon serve Google with subpoenas to appear before the Senate’s antitrust committee—specifically CEO Larry Page and Chairman Eric Schmidt—as part of an investigation into its web dominance. Currently, its search engine accounts for almost 66% of all traffic and its site saw one billion unique visitors last month.

This wouldn’t be the first time a computer giant faced an antitrust investigation. Back in 1998, Microsoft went to court to determine whether packaging Internet Explorer with Windows was unfair.
