Yes, you read that headline correctly: an animated Cabbage Patch Kids movie is on the fast track to the big screen.

Producer Galen Walker, who's also the name behind the upcoming live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, has obtained the rights to the cuddly toys. No word on who is writing the script, but it's being written for a TV special to reintroduce the world to the dolls. No plot details have been released as of now.

The Kids join a long and painful list of childhood memories that have made the jump from the toybox to the screen, including G.I. Joe and Transformers, as well as ones that will surface in due time, such as Battleship, Candyland, and Risk. If a Cabbage Patch TV movie is successful, don't be surprised if Hollywood make another attempt to bring back those youngsters from the wrong side of the tracks, The Garbage Pail Kids, a property that gave birth to a truly horrendous 1987 flick.
