1Gbps Fiber-Optic Internet Now Available in Cali

One of the fastest commercially available services around comes at a bargain.

Chances are, if you’re looking to upgrade to the fastest Internet connection speed possible, your ISP will charge you a pretty penny. And even at top dollar, the highest speeds still only hover around 100 Mbps.

However, little-known, California-based ISP Sonic.net is now offering a 1Gbps fiber-optic connection—almost 10 times the industry standard—at a budget price of just $70/month. The reason for the low price is the company’s small roll-out, servicing only 700 households or so in Sebastopol, Calif. No worries as to their legitimacy—they currently count Google as a client.

One would assume the state’s techier cities, such as San Francisco, should be next to see the service—then, hopefully, the rest of the state and country.
