Trailer Park: “Shark Night 3D” Takes Itself Way Too Seriously

Let's hope the actual movie recaptures some of that Piranha 3D spirit.

In the proud cinematic tradition of sharks feasting on scantily clad twentysomethings, Shark Night 3D certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to shed any of the clichés of its predecessors. Hell, they even show the black guy getting killed first in the trailer.

Starring blonde hottie Sara Paxton (The Last House On The Left), Shark Night 3D hopes to follow in the footsteps of late summer horror fare such as Snakes on the Plane and Piranha 3D. The problem is, though, that, while those movies all had a tongue-in-cheek attitude about their ridiculous premise, the trailer for Shark Night 3D plays surprisingly straight. We’re sure the movie itself will still elicit plenty of laughter, both intentionally and unintentionally, yet we can’t help but wonder if Shark Night 3D will completely fail if it’s done with a serious tone. There's a reason why everyone loves those goofy SyFy creature features, which Shark Night 3D definitely resembles.

Shark Night 3D doesn’t look like it’s going to break any ground in terms of originality, and if the acting in the trailer is any indication of what’s to come then we’re pretty sure everyone will be rooting for the shark(s) to win. But there is always the outside chance that the movie will actually provide some 3D entertainment for 90 minutes. We sure hope so.

Shark Night 3D will be released on September 2.
