"Mortal Kombat" Delivers Fatality To April Sales Charts

And, along with Portal, leads the way to almost a billion dollars of monthly revenue.

NPD has released gaming industry sales figures for April 2011 and compared to the same month in 2010, there's been a 20% overall growth. Mortal Kombat lead April sales with a smidge under 900,000 units sold and Portal 2, which released on the same day, came in second place. Overall, five games broke the 250,000 copies sold mark—compared to only two titles that accomplished the same feat this time last year.  On the hardware side of things, Xbox 360 led the pack with 297,000 consoles sold, and PS3 sales in April amazingly showed a 13% growth despite the network outages that plagued the console in the second half of the month (and the first of this month).
