Regardless of the manufacturer, most Android smartphones look and behave very similarly; almost identically. As a whole, they're vague black rectangles running the same OS, usually with some sort of skin meant to differentiate it from the rest of the Android crew. A new phone, called the INFOBAR, looks to buck that trend.

Designed by Naoto Fukasawa, the INFOBAR is a completely new take on what an Android phone can be. Yes, it's rectangle in shape, but that's about where the similarities end. It's body is colorful, with three actual buttons at the bottom for "Menu," "Home," and "Back". The Gingerbread version of Android powering the device is remade in an all-new way with apps and widgets organized in a customizable vertical block layout.

There's no word on when the INFOBAR will be made or how much it'll cost or if it will ever hit U.S. stores. We're also interested in knowing how it will work with the current Android apps. While we wait impatiently for those questions to be answered, peep the promo video above.
