Ethan Hawke Joins The Cast Of "Total Recall"

Can this casting save a movie that's shaping up to be an epic fail?

None

Ethan Hawke is reportedly joining the cast of Total Recall, Columbia's Colin-Farrell-starring remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi/action movie.

Radically ignoring the source material, director Len Wiseman has ditched the Martian storyline and will instead focus on nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Farrell will play Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side.

Heat Vision's report of Hawke's inclusion doesn't contain any specifics on what his role will be exactly, only that it's a hush-hush "secret" cameo (not anymore). We're hoping that he gets slapped full of make-up and prostethics to play Kuato. Hell, we'll even take him as the wise-cracking Johnny Cab.

Bryan Cranston joins Hawke and Farrell as the film's big bad guy, while Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are likely to be playing Quaid's wife Lori and rebellious sidepiece Melina, respectively. Bookeem Woodbinerecently joined the cast to be the "big brother" to Farrell's secret agent character. This new Total Recall is continuing to shape up to be an #EpicFail of massive proportions.

Either way, Wiseman kicks off shooting on May 15 in Toronto, and Total Recall is tagged for an August 3, 2012 release.
