It's safe to say the Navy SEALs' killing of Osama bin Laden will go down in history as one of the most daring and dangerous missions ever attempted and completed. So, in this day and age, it shouldn't be surprising if the famous mission gets digitally immortalized for future trainees to use for preparation. Security giant Raytheon and motion-capture experts Motion Reality have done just that.
Spencer Ackerman over at Wired'sDanger Room blog took a trip to Tampa, Fla. to check out Virtsim, a virtual reality simulator used by the FBI for training purposes that has been modified to train commandos for super-intense missions by placing them in a digital version of the Abbottabad, Pakistan compound where bin Laden was found and killed. According to Ackerman, the graphics in the simulation "look like Call of Duty: Pakistan, down to the bullet holes pockmarking the compound’s dusty, concrete walls." Raytheon and Motion Reality plan to debut the simulator at the 2011 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference.
