Motorola changed the game with its Atrix smartphone that, when plugged into a laptop dock, could be used like a laptop. ASUS looks to take the idea one step further with its newly unveiled Padfone.

Like the Atrix, the Padfone is an 4.3-inch Android smartphone that can plug into a dock to deliver a new computing experience. Only unlike the Atrix, the Padfone plugs into a tablet instead of a laptop. The tablet docks measures in at 10.1-inches and comes equipped with speakers and an extended battery. However, all the processing, Internet connections, and storage comes from the phone.

There's no word on pricing, but word is ASUS is aiming to have it in stores by Christmas '11 running the Android Ice Cream OS.
