The popular sword-wielding hero Zorro is getting the reboot treatment, as well as a new futuristic setting, according to Los Angeles Times. A new film, tentatively titled Zorro: Reborn, will reimagine the swashbuckler in a post-apocalyptic world, as opposed to his usual setting of Mexico.

Zorro last time on screen was in Martin Campbell’s 2005 film The Legend Of Zorro, starring Antonio Banderas. But in a world of Hollywood reinvention and reboots, it was only a matter of time before the big Z got rebooted.

The flick is set to be directed by Rpin Suwannath, a special effects veteran who has worked on some of the X-Men, Matrix and Chronicles of Narnia movies. The script will be written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who recently sold a Dracula-themed script for Harker.
