As of right this instant, New York's Serendipity 3 features on their menu a foot-long, all-beef hot dog served inside a toasted pretzel bun, imported, topped with duck foie gras, vidalia onions, and black truffles. For maximum price-point escalation, and we guess taste, the hot dog is grilled in truffle oil.
This hot dog costs $69.
On the menu it's listed as such: "Serendipity Foot Long Haute Dog." The first woman to try this "haute dog" was named Trudy Tant. In one particularly lame bit of motherfuckery, Serendipity 3 gets a Guinness Award for producing this hot dog, while Tant receives no award.
If you watch the video for this event, you'll hear the following words: "fun," "not unreasonable," and "glamourized." One of the co-creators of this food informs the viewer that the hot dog can be split in two so that two people can eat it. This is important.
Other important facts: Serendipity 3 sells a Guinness Award-holding sundae that costs $1,000. That makes their other $15 sundaes sound "not unreasonable," don't you think?
