It looks like the superstar father-son duo of Will Smith and Jaden Smith (seen together in 2006's The Pursuit of Happyness) are ready for another high-profile family affair. The pair has just signed on to an untitled futuristic sci-fi action-adventure film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The controversial filmmaker man first spoke about this project last fall when he was promoting the awful The Last Airbender, referring to his project as One Thousand A.E.

While its title seems to have changed, the film is set 1,000 years into the future, where a young boy (Jaden) navigates an abandoned and frightfully dangerous planet Earth to save himself and his estranged father (Will) after their ship crashes. Shyamalan spoke on getting the box office royalty to sign on by saying, via press release, "The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project." Guess all that kung-fu training from The Karate Kid will come in handy, eh?

Sony Pictures Entertainment will be behind the film, with Papa Smith's Overbrook Entertainment handling production duties.
