No April Fool's joke here, action fans! Lionsgate just announced at CinemaCon that The Expendables 2 film will explode into theaters on August 17, 2012. While they have yet to lock down a director, Sylvester Stallone and company will go head-to-head with another action sequel that comes out the week before: G.I. Joe 2 (directed by Jon Chu).

The script is currently being written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, and word is that Bruce Willis could return as a supervillain with his own team of bad-ass mercs. The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has also been eying new projects, so there's always a chance that he'll return to Stallone's project in a larger role.

It's safe to say that Sly is hoping lightning strikes twice, as the original film earned an impressive $274.5 million worldwide gross opening on a similar date, August 13, 2010.
