3. JESSE JAMES (1847-1882)

Calling Card: James was known for his showmanship. He would leave press releases detailing his recent crimes.
Casualties: During a robbery in Missouri, James shot and killed the cashier, mistakenly thinking he was someone else.
Complex Says: Jesse James and his brother Frank went from soldiers to America's most wanted. Both were soldiers for the Confederate Army during the Civil War. When the war was over, they became world class bank robbers and actually quite ruthless. Jesse James was definitely not of the "steal from the rich, give to the poor" mentality. The earnings he obtained stayed in his own pockets.
