Samsung Rumored to be Prepping Chrome OS Netbook

Samsung would be the fledgling OS's biggest backer yet.

Business Insider.

Remember Chrome OS? Since it was announced in '09, Google's Internet-based operating system based on the Chrome browser hasn't made much of a blip. But that's only because you can't really get Chrome OS anywhere. Aside from a limited number of Cr-48 netbooks, distributed mainly among silicon valley types, Google hasn't shipped any computers running its operating system that you might actually want to buy.

That could all change in a few months, with rumors circulating that Samsung is getting behind Chrome OS with an upcoming netbook codenamed "Alex." The netbook is said to have a solid-state drive, 10inch screen, 3G support and a 1.5 ghz dual core Intel processor with 2 gigs of RAM.

Look for more details on Chrome OS netbooks at Google's upcoming I/O conference on May 10.
