The ever-diligent iPhone Dev-Team has followed up the release of its tethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak with an updated PwangeTool that allows untethered jailbreaking.

For those unfamiliar with iPhone jailbreaking, here's a quick primer. There are two types of jailbreaks: tethered and untethered. The former requires you to connect your iPhone to your computer every time it needs to be restarted, the other doesn't. You can see why this is kind of a big deal.

The hack is compatible with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, the Verizon iPhone 4, third and fourth gen iPod touches, the new Apple TV, and the first iPad. The iPad 2 is NOT supported.

To get started, make sure your device is updates to the latest iOS (4.3.1), download the PwnageTool and follow the instructions. But remember: If you mess up your device, you're S.O.L.
