Wolf is the singer and songwriter for Oakland-via-Cincinnati group WHY?, who fuse soaring pop choruses with half-rapped, half-sung verses of tongue-twisters and self-deprecation. Over the course of their existence, WHY? have expanded from simple loops and samples to a richer vein of instrumentation.
Their last two albums, Eskimo Snow (2009) and Alopecia (2008), both came from the same recording sessions, which employed the skills of Minneapolis group Fog. The result was two slabs of gorgeous melodies and raw lyrics delivered with Wolf’s trademark freneticism. Seeing the man in action live, stripped down to his voice and who knows what else, should be interesting. -Finn Cohen
