Trailer Park: "Las Malas Intenciones (The Bad Intentions)" (Directed By Rosario Garcia-Montero)

Head to Peru for what appears to be an impressive dark comedy.

Here in the states, movies about little kids tend to posit the rugrats as creepy brats and/or precocious troublemakers. Leave it to a foreign director to show us how well-developed kiddie characters are done in this first trailer for Las Malas Intenciones (The Bad Intentions).

Cayetana, the film's young protagonist played by Fatima Buntinx, has a morbid fascination with death, triggered by the impending birth of her younger brother. Peruvian filmmaker Rosario Garcia-Montero's dark comedy takes place in early 1980's Peru, when the insurgent group Sendero Luminoso (or Shining Path) started rallying against the government and civilians. Though the trailer shows the film’s focus on the asthmatic Cayetana (Fatima Buntinx) and her rampant imagination, there's still a sense of the period's escalating violence.

No stateside release date has been announced yet, but expect to see Las Malas Intenciones making its way around various film festivals in the near future.
