That New York judge who promised a potential juror who portrayed herself as a racist cop-hater that she would be in court "until the future, when I am ready to dismiss her," has dismissed her a mere day later.

Judge Nicholas Garaufis had bawled out the young Brooklynite not because of her ostensibly racist views—she indicated on a juror questionaire that she hated "African Americans, Hispanics and Haitians"—but because he thought she was lying to get out of jury duty. "I hope this experience will be an education for you and the next time you're called for jury duty you'll give honest answers," the judge reportedly told the woman yesterday.

That seems highly doubtful as he turned around on his opinion exactly one day after issuing it. The juror got out of her duty, as she had hoped, and the judge got to look like a spineless flip-flopper right before presiding over the death-penalty trial of Vincent "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano, the Bonnano family crime boss. Good job, everyone.
