Jeremy Renner is a popular guy these days. The Hurt Locker star, who also received an Oscar nomination for his work in last year's The Town, has been offered the starring role in director Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy.
Gilroy, who wrote or co-wrote the first three Bourne saga's, has been testing actors for the last few weeks to find a brand new lead that would be distinctively different from Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. Let's be extra clear: The Bourne Legacy will not feature the Bourne character. Renner would play an all-new character.
The only problem is when does the guy have the time to film the damn thing?
It took dumb long to work out his schedule to star in Paramount's Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which is currently being shot for a March 2012 release. That came after he filmed his role in Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, which hits theaters in December.
But the huge elephant in the room is that little movie known as The Avengers. Renner is on board to play Hawkeye in Marvel Studios and Disney's summer action-adventure film that comes out next year, but first audiences can see him via a cameo in Thor, which is out on May 6.
While his Bourne casting isn't confirmed yet, it looks like he will most likely accept the part and jam it into his already cramped schedule. Looks like he may need to be superhuman after all.
