Fun fact: Scream 4 isn’t only the horror franchise’s least scary installment—it’s also packed with the most actual screams. Sixty-seven, to be exact, which is a dramatic increase from the 37 frightened yells heard in the 1996 original, Scream.
How do we know all of this? Because we recently sat back down with all four of Wes Craven’s Scream movies, counted each and every diverse scream. Meaning, every false shriek from goofy and ineffective lawman Dewey Riley (David Arquette), every yelp let out by Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as she’s evading the Ghostface killer, and each of the useless shouts emitted by the eventually filleted victims.
So, how many total screams are there in the Scream movies? Take a look at our comprehensive breakdown and see if your estimations are correct, or if, unlike the Scream’s know-it-all movie buff characters, your horror flick instincts aren’t up to snuff.
