After talks broke down between Viggo Mortensen and Universal for Snow White and the Huntsman, it seems that they've offered the key Huntsman role to Hugh Jackman. With The Wolverine on hold due to the tragedy in Japan and director Darren Aronofsky's bowing out for personal reasons, it could work, and adding Jackman to the cast could push the mainstream appeal up a notch.

Deadline reports that the call-to-arms has gone out from director Rupert Sanders for the Australian action star to appear alongside Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron (they play Snow White and the evil Queen, respectively). There's also word that Hossein Amini (writer of the upcoming action-drama 47 Ronin) may do some retooling on the script, originally penned by Evan Dougherty.

Snow White and the Huntsman, which is a rush project for Universal, is playing catch-up ball to a host of other fairy tale themed films—and is tagged with a December 21, 2012 release.
