The days of a simple matte painting and stop-motion animation are over. CGI is now the dominant force in film special effects and, while it can truly help a director’s vision come to life, it's also a slow and expensive process.

And sometimes, as the calendar begins to turn to summer, movie studios have to rush just to make sure their blockbuster film's effects will even be ready in time. This is the case with Green Lantern. Even though the flick is set to be released within the next month and a half, Warner Bros. is pumping even more money into the film’s production just to ensure it gets released on time.

According to Variety, the studio has hired some brand new special effects studios and spent an additional $9 million in production costs just to finish up the remaining shots. And while that may seem like a big deal, the studio is downplaying any problems.

“There is no problem on Green Lantern,” Chris de Faria, Warner’s exec VP of digital production, animation and visual effects told the trade. “We try to add things to make the movie better until the 11th hour. That doesn’t mean we’re risking the movie up to the 11th hour.”

Green Lantern is still set to be released on June 17.
